We get that something isn’t quite right at the school but it takes us FOREVER to get there. I knew from the beginning she would be “special” but you really don’t know, especially since she’s discovering more about her extended family at her time at Katmere Academy.

And the main character, Grace, is boring af. They’re swapping spit for a good majority of the latter half of the book and I’m just screaming, “Is this necessary? Where’s the plot?” Grace kept talking about how she knows Jaxon and how he wouldn’t do this or wouldn’t do that and I’m like HOW? YOU HAVEN’T EVEN KNOWN EACH OFHER FOR A WEEK! Normally I don’t mind insta-love if it’s done well but this was just…not. Grace and Jaxon are immediately drawn to one another and it simply doesn’t work for me. For a book with almost 540 pages, would you believe me if I told you all the extra pages slowed the plot down? Draaaaaaged the characters around only for me to find them utterly boring? This could have done with a bit more editing (but that’s coming from a non-professional POV). And now someone wants to wake a sleeping monster, and I’m wondering if I was brought here intentionally-as the bait.”įirst off, it needed to be at least 100-150 pages shorter.
